We just recently bought our MacBook Pro and love it. This Genius book really fills in the knowledge gaps since the documentation that comes with the laptop is cute but not very substantial. Laid out logically in easy-to-read chapters, this book is a good learning and reference book. Good images and readable language make this a good buy--well worth the price.
MacBook Pro Portable Genius by Brad Miser (book)

It's clear, well written and quite thorough. I'm a Mac newbie, and friends had recommended "The Missing Manual" but it wasn't yet published. This was a great purchase for me. Others' reviews guided my decision. I do recommend it it to anyone who is new to OS X and/or MacBook/MacBook Pro.

While the book doesn't cover all the items needed by a newbie to the Mac, it deals with broader topics and applications not native to the Mac on delivery. It's clearly and well-written.

I am a recent convert to the MAC and although I would never go back to a PC the change over left me with a lot of questions that no one seemed to be able to answer. I tried the Apple store, but they were always putting you on hold; I tried Macbook for dummies but I felt as dumb after as I did before. My salvation came in the form of the "Portable genius" by Brad Miser. It is as easy read and answers all of the questions that you don't know to ask. I highly recommend it for anyone using a Mac! As a brand-new Apple user (and long time PC user) I found this book incredibly useful as I made the transition. It provides step by step instructions for using the basics (email, internet, address books, calendars, printing, etc) and familiarizing oneself with the Apple world.
