""The Mac OS X.2 Little Black Book"" features technical overviews of the new features of Mac OS X Jaguar in a portable, concise format. The book contains full coverage of the newest upgrades, including iChat, Sherlock3, Rendezvous, Quartz Extreme, QuickTime 6, and the added functionality, such as increased handwriting recognition ability.
This book is very well thought out and written to be easily understood, whether you only dip in when you need help or read it from front to back. A number of techniques - thumbable chapter headings on the edge of every page, Notes, Tips, Related Solutions (saving visits to the contents or index) - all make this a book that is a joy to refer to.Despite some glitches (eg. it's not until Chapter 4 that the diagrams match their comments - they're out of step by one), if you asked to borrow my copy I'd say, "Sorry, mine's in use; you'll have to buy your own copy."
Great introduction to Jaguar

This is a terrific book. It's about installing and using Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar not, as one person wrote here, about type and graphics. If one wants a type and graphics book, I'd recommend a volume covering those subjects specifically. However, the author does have a chapter on using fonts under Mac OS X, and how font managers work. This is something few books about Apple's operating system cover. Maybe that particular reviewer didn't notice, but I did. There are a few production errors, such as misplaced figures, but all in all, I recommend this book highly.
Beautifully written...

I don't expect computer books to be well written. I expect them to be straightforward and dull. Mr. Steinberg's book is a refreshing change. Not only is it carefully crafted for readability, but his subtle touches of humor are a refreshing change. The book is a great introduction to Mac OS X Jaguar for users of the older Mac systems. It made installation and setup a breeze, and I welcomed the extensive troubleshooting chapter and the introduction to UNIX. The only quibble I have is that some illustrations in Chapter 3 are mislabeled, obviously a production mistake. The book is nonetheless a great read and extremely informative. Highly recommended.
