I soon faced her with my pistol at my side, finger on the trigger guard. She wore a thick winter coat. She looked much the same as the last time we'd met in person. It was difficult to think of her as my enemy, even after everything she'd done. I couldn't understand why this was. Logically, I knew I couldn't trust her. I couldn't believe a word she said, but a part of me still wanted to. Wasn't I just reminding myself to have no mercy? "There's no need to stick a gun in my face," I said. "I didn't come here to hurt you." "Why do you have a gun then?" Kris said. "You're the one pointing a pistol at me. I put mine down the moment I knew it was you, even though I'm sure I could've at least taken you with me if I'd wanted to." I showed some emotion in my voice and on my face, hoping she bought it. The helicopter had stopped. It appeared to be hovering on the opposite side of the structure from us, probably twenty to thirty feet back from the building by the sound of it.
