Meet Little Clam, a very busy and unlikely hero who lives in his shell at the edge of the sea. The hungry sea star, the hungry conch, and the hungry gull are all looking for Little Clam. They want to... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I am a children's librarian and have read Lynn Reiser's book Little Clam to groups of children from toddlers to about age 7. It completely surprised me that a very slight story about a CLAM could be so full of suspense and action! Do not be put off by the crass comments by PW, this story is just the right length and tone for young kids. It could be seen as a metaphor for dealing with the real threats that exist in the world, like bullies and predators. The little clam does only what a little clam is capable of doing, and manages to defend himself long enough for his friend (the wave) to clear things up. To tell this story in so few words, and on a child's level, is not just poetry, it is classic. It shouldn't have gone out of print.

When Goodnight Moon wears thin parents can turn to this wonderful bedtime story for a refreshing change of scene and pace. Reiser's gentle text and playful illustrations lead, in the end to a delightful goodnight romp. Little Clam is a great addition to bedtime stories for the very young.
