Lifting the Veil presents a view of Muslim women from many cultures. The chapters explain the religious and cultural views of women in predominately Muslim countries. My favorite parts of the book are the first-hand descriptions of daily lives of women who are Muslim. These descriptions are insightful, not sensational. While some vignettes carry emotional impact, the book is written, for the most part, on an intellectual level. I especially appreciated the Parshalls' commitment to holding up side-by-side mirrors to compare Western views of women to the Muslim view at appropriate places. This book is an excellent resource for church libraries and for home study.
