Letters to My Sisters: Plain Truths and Straightforward Advice

I met Dr. Osuagwu at a recent luncheon where she was the keynote speaker. I was very impressed with her sincere mission of preventative health advice. I left the luncheon with two copies of her book; one for my collection of Ohio Authors and one for my soon-to-be graduating high school niece. I would recommend this book as a loving gift to all graduating students, male and female. The information contained within would scare them straight, if not plant some seeds of knowlege that would normally take them decades (and mistakes) to learn.
Should be in every woman's library

Quick read, yet wonderfully informative. I love the stories and I love her frankness. I am a thirty something who feels very aware, in control of my health issues and makes good use of my doctors. Yet, thanks to Letters to my Sisters I will now approach my doctor visits, especially my OB/GYN visits with a different mindset. There is so much more to know and this book delivers it in a way that is not overwhelming or scary as medical matters can quickly become. Who knew there were that many STDs?! I also love the resources at the end. Again, great reference book that I won't be giving away or loaning out, but it will definitely make my gift giving list.
An informational tool and mock heart-to-heart with your best friend.

Letters to my Sisters: Plain truths and straightforward advice from a Gynecologist, is much like a reference book, but it reads like a story. It is comprised of short letters regarding several different struggles that women go through in life. It's a quick and easy way to inform yourself, your mother, your sisters or your friends, and can be a useful tool for girls in the beginning stages of puberty to women who are post-menopausal. Whether it is a lump in your breast, weight gain, domestic violence or any other physical or mental problem, honesty and encouragement from a physician is an essential part of treatment and recovery. Osuagwu gives her readers that needed push. She is blatantly honest, but in a good way. In one letter she writes: "Douching is not good for you, unless it is your way of supporting my practice," and in another, "You are fat! How else do you expect me to put it?" As an informational tool or a mock heart-to-heart with your best friend, Letters to my Sisters is truly a book that every woman should experience.
