This book is great! Written as seen by one of the characters of the book keeps you intrigued throughout the whole book. Michael Frederick is a great author, that honest, brutal, poignant, and doesn't skirt the issue. Wish more books were written this way.

This is a wonderful book. It is a fictional story depicted in a real town next to a real state park. Some of the places described in this book actually exist if you read the descriptions then go to the park & find them. Having been in a setting the kids desribed in this book, I feel for them. I highly recommend this book for anybody looking for their next "favorite" author.
Wonderful novel draws a multitude of emotions from reader

The best thing about this novel was the depth of the characters. Often characters are one dimensional and their actions become all too predicatble. Each character in this novel became a real person to me. From the beginning I was drawn in emotionally. I worried for the family and yet was disgusted at how disfunctional was accepted an normal for these people. The actions of the characters, especially Michelle, who sells her soul to the devil, made me realize that our hidden agendas can be much more powerful than our weaknesses and our intentions, especially when we try to hide these agendas from even ourselves. All around good book, as good as "One True Thing" and "Snow Falling on Cedars".
