View this exhibit at the Orange County Museum of Art in Newport Beach, California: Landscape Confection Newport Beach feb 5 - may 7, 2006 The visually enticing Landscape Confection extends the boundaries of landscape painting with whimsical works employing stitched fabric, beads, wax, metal, silk flowers, and other materials. The exhibition presents 50 works by 13 emerging and mid-career artists from around the globe, all-working in the genre of landscape art in surprising ways. Embracing the idea of the decorative, their influences range from naturalist illustrations to impressionism to wallpaper patterns. Some of the works in Landscape Confection are derived from topography, others from the realm of fantasy and dreamscape, and most straddle the line between traditional landscape art and abstraction. The artists included in Landscape Confection are Rowena Dring, Pia Fries, Jason Gubbiotti, Jim Hodges, David Korty, Kori Newkirk, Katie Pratt, Michael Raedecker, Neal Rock, Lisa Sanditz, Ranjani Shettar, Amy Sillman, and Janaina Tschape.
