This photographic narrative showcases more than 250 historic landmarks across New Orleans. Divided by geographic areas of the city, the book covers establishments in the Garden District, the Central Business District, Algiers, and Esplanade Ridge, among others. Historical overviews with corresponding images illustrate such structures as homes, churches, colleges, and commercial buildings.
From the Cabildo in the Vieux Carre and the William Faulkner House in Pirates Alley, to the former Kolb's Restaurant on St. Charles Avenue and the New Orleans Cotton Exchange building on Carondelet Street, Landmarks of New Orleans depicts an array of historic sites. A section on floating landmarks includes information on the Delta Queen, the Deluge, and the U.S.S. Cabot. In addition to providing a history of the building, along with the name of the architect, each overview notes the date that the Orleans Parish Landmarks Commission designated the building as a National Historic Landmark. An index allows readers to access particular establishments.
