I really enjoy Annie Modesitt's work and her sometimes unorthodox approach to knitting (I guess nobody ever told her you can't knit a candy dish or a lawn chair). I admire the range of her interests and designs, and hope to meet her someday. Years ago she was very helpful to me as I knitted a lace hat of her design. I wanted to offer to edit her books as the first couple I read really needed proofreading and cleaning up, but still, I appreciated the effort. This book, much more polished, is a very personal account of a horrendously difficult stage of Annie's and her family's life and the place knitting has in it. It took courage to live that life and courage, as well, to write about it. Kudos and good luck to a special member of the knitting community.
