Book Overview

In the near future, on America's campuses, professors hawk their courses, dozens of political groups compete in violence and computer-dating means having sex with a computer. It may not be all grind, but isn't it fun and games - as one senior finds out when he kidnaps his favorite professor - and kills him for his knowledge.

You are looking at the college of tomorrow where yesterday's radicals are the Establishment. And tomorrow's students invent the ultimate revolution.

Powerfully subtle

In Kampus, the students are engaged in continuous radical revolution. Society however is in many ways the utopia that liberal minds crave. The work week is 20hrs, people retire in their 40's and 50's. Everyone gets an allowance from the government. Health care is free, education is free and yet the students still find a reason to rebel, and to rebel violently. In Kampus, Gunn is making a statement that protests and ideological battles have more to do with human nature's yearning for conflict and strife, and less to do with a genuine attempt to change society for the better. The Utopian society is in fact a dystopia and Gunn is asking us, "If we had all that we really wanted, would we be any happier??
