A clean, captivating novel that includes drama, suspense, and romance. a unique addition to the book is a collection of recipes based on the meals mentioned in the story. Nikki Truman triumphed over a childhood of abuse with her spirit intact. She has a happy disposition and an incredible determination to make both her and her brother's lives as normal as she possibly can. Hired on as Rory McNiel's housekeeper and cook, she's well on her way to making that happen. Changing Rory's couch potato ways and his unhealthy eating habits are a snap compared to over-hauling his damaged self-esteem. However, when Rory's mother sees Nikki cooking her way into her son's heart, battle lines are drawn. Nikki knows a dark secret stands in the way of her bright future and her growing love for Rory. That secret doesn't want to be kept in the closet-in fact, it is practically on her doorstep. It won't rest until it has claimed her brother, but Nikki will do anything to protect Casey. Anything by justifiable means.
Guymon creates brilliant characters and unique situtations that, while some come across as impossible, you really do wish they existed. The mark of good fiction. While dialogue is typically too wordy and actions/expressions too few, this book pulls it all off in good fashion. Better than most of her other works. This is a fast read, a clean romance and an overall tender story. Not to mention tasty looking recipes at the end (haven't tried any yet). My biggest complaint is that it ends all too soon, leaving you wishing for just another chapter or two. This book is perfect for a day spent reading (and unlike a lot of stories, it really will only take a few hours to read this one).
