What makes these cards so jazzy? The techniques that adorn them--stenciling, stamping, embossing, punching, and collage--as well as a wealth of eye-catching embellishments, including festive beads, jewels, ribbons, and tassels. Plus, they're the creations of a team of talented artists who have really outdone themselves. Some of the designs are easy to make, others more complicated, but there's something for every occasion and a wide array of styles and sizes to choose from. Give a Love Collage to a sweetheart; a Special Delivery greeting with a stork and small baby motifs; and cards for birthdays, anniversaries, Mother's and Father's days, and every holiday.
"Jazzy Greeting Cards" can be a very useful book, especially for beginning card makers who don't have a lot of supplies--some of the examples in this book need only paper and a coloring medium (the author is fond of acrylic paint, chalks, colored inks, and watercolor pencils). The card patterns are supplied at their actual size, so you don't have to expand or shrink them, just copy or trace, and color. Unfortunately the person who had this book before I did, traced with a rather heavy hand, so I had to erase her markings before I could use a pattern. Be sure to get a new, or at least an unmarked used copy of "Jazzy Greeting Cards." As is usual with books on greeting card construction, "Jazzy Greeting Cards" begins with a section on the supplies and tools that you will need. The author devotes a couple of pages to adhesives and 'Quick Tricks with Glue,' takes a quick look at 'Embellishments,' then describes a couple of special card-making techniques: "Collage & Layering;" and "Working with Photos." The final and largest section of this book devotes itself to "Cards for Special People & Special Times." Here you will find patterns, supply lists, and instructions for making everything from a birthday card to a tea party invitation: sixty-three cards in all. Many of them require specific stamps or embellishments, but you could certainly substitute the stamps and doodads that you already have on hand for those that the author used to construct her original examples. "Jazzy Greeting Cards" is an 8.5"x10" paperback, 128 pages in length with color photographs of all of the author's projects. It is suitable for beginning card makers, and there are also projects for more advanced crafters involving illusion braiding and the setting of multiple decorative eyelets.
