I have never felt compelled to write a book review before now, having put this book through its paces I am so enthused that I thought I would share my thoughts will all. I totally love this book!!! I own quite a few japanese cookbooks, I fall in love with the pictures and the recipes, they sound sooo wonderful but when it comes down to actually cooking them I usually don't. They seem too fiddley or I can't get some of the ingredients etc etc. I believe Kimiko Barber is the Jamie Oliver of japanese cooking, the contents of this book are so easy to understand, good straight forward cooking with a Japanese flavour. I particularly enjoyed Komiko's notes explaining the health benefits offered by each recipe along with it's cultural/historical background or sometimes Komiko's own nostaglic memories of her childhood, family and homecooked meals in Japan. Especially helpful is the explanation of certain ingredients, ones that we may not understand, and don't worry about being able to find such ingredients as Komiko offers a western alternative (thank you Komiko). I consider this book to be money very well spent, this is a book you can sink your teeth into......so to speak :) I will now purchase Komiko's previous books as I'm certain they will not disappoint. ***** Informative, beautiful & VERY USEABLE.
