good for a start into programming with no experiance. easy to read. the book is geared to an old JBuilder version but you can skip those parts. the book does lack quite a bit when it comes to class methods but that what the java docs are for. this book give a intro into graphics which is hardly given enough info. It also covers the basics of applets. i would suggest getting the larger verison of this book that has more on gui i/o and data structures. 4 stars for easy reader basic info, and lacking more. you will need another book after this one.
