Just reading Gina Hyams is soothing in itself. I loved every part and every word. Big Sky meditation is my favorite part, but it's all wonderful, really. I love the mysteries of incense and read almost every book I can on the subject. This and The Book of Incense by Kiyoko Morita are my favorites of all of them. This is a beautiful hardbound book with great color illustrations. It covers so many different perspectives on incense, from recipes for Egyptian Kyphi to a marvelous section of the Japanese incense ceremony and incense games. Anyone who loves incense will love this book.

This book captures the history and essence of incense, across its many traditions, better than any other I have read. Gina really writes beautifully, but behind the well organized presentation and skilful use of words it is so very evident that a great deal of effort and writing integrity is at the foundation. The photography and print quality is excellent, and I am really happy they chose the hardcover format. This is one I will send to my friends in Japan!
