A debut title in the First Discovery Look-and-Learn series, IN THE GARDEN is designed with foldout pages that allow young children to "look and learn" all about plants and their produce.... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Each book in this "First Discovery Look-and-Learn Series" used the same format: A two page spread picture with a little text to set the scene and then a lift up flap that identifies and tells fascinating tidbits of information about various living creatures or objects on the two-page spread. I have four books from the series. After finding one and seeing how much the kids liked them (perfect for science enrichment) I found as many as I could to add to our classroom science library. They don't seem to be in print anymore, this is a shame as the artwork and lift-a-flap concept really appeals to and keeps the interest of the children. I had to purchase all of them used. They are worth every penny as I couldn't find any other resource that could replace how we use them in the classroom.

This book is a delight. I think I enjoy it as much as my toddler. (And considering how many times a day we read it, this is pretty important!) The illustrations make you want to run into this garden and stay there all day. The test is short but nice. The fold-out pages offer additional information that extends the life of the book (and the variety of ways to read it). I highly recommend it for preschoolers and even on into the early grades.

My 2-yr-old just loves this book -- so much, in fact, that I just ordered In the Ocean, On the Farm, and In the Forest from this series. She has memorized the plants and foods in this book and loves looking for each item in the larger panoramic picture on each page. She seems to like "identification" books right now. We are learning new things along with her! If you're looking for colorful, informative nonfiction books for your child, I highly recommend this series.
