Delivers in suspense and romance

There's definitely a fun and action-packed time to be had with I'd Rather Be in Paris. This is a romantic suspense which hits all the right chords. It achieves a good balance between the action and the developing relationship between Zara and Lawson. Intriguing settings. Looming threats. Betrayals. Danger at every side. Zara was a favorite--interesting dynamics, interesting clash between her past life as a ballerina and her new life as a CIA agent. Her old dreams have a pull on her still, and matters are further complicated when she and Lawson Vaughn are forced to hide out with her old ballet teacher while trying to bring down a biological terror threat. I'll forego details to avoid spoilers, but there is a scene where she's dancing, unaware that Lawson is watching, which is pretty much perfectly pulled off. Another aspect I particularly liked was that Lawson Vaughn doesn't do things half-assed, running off alone Rambo-style against the enemy. He has an elite search and rescue team and doesn't hesitate to call them in when he needs them--a refreshing change from some of the more unrealistic portrayals I've read in other books. I really enjoyed this book, loved the characters and the final confrontation.

This is one of the rare second books that is as good or better than the first!

When I read Operation Sheba,Operation Sheba, the first book in the series, I thought it was the best romantic suspense I'd read in so long I couldn't remember. I was shocked to find out Misty Evans was a new author. I knew right then she was an author to watch. She's the best to come along in literally years. Her intelligence, imagination and ingenuity shine off the pages in her characters that are so real they feel like friends in whose lives you're intimately involved. If her books had been placed for review on my site, I'd have given all three in the Super Agent Series awards above and beyond the highest '5' rating. In my experience, a second book in a series rarely turns out as exciting or as interesting as the first, but I'd Rather Be In Paris,I'd Rather be in Paris (Super Agent), held me as riveted to the pages and gave me as much pleasure as reading Operation Sheba. The third book, Proof of Life,Proof of Life: Super Agent Series, Book 3, touched my heart even more. The intrigue and tension increased as the stories kept building on the previous history. I read so many books so much the same that I have to go back to check the particular facts in some of them as I'm writing the review. That could never happen with a Misty Evans book. This whole series is one I'll be reading for pleasure again and again! Misty Evans is an author I plan to collect for my personal bookshelf. When one reads for work, finding a book you enjoy reading for pleasure is a true gem. The Super Agent Series is a treasure trove of pure joy!

Another great book for the romance reader's library!

Considered a pampered rich girl turned "spook", Zara Morgan thrives on making the world a safer place after 911. Betrayal, a repeated theme throughout the story, has been a driving force in her life for as long as she can remember and now colors her mode of operation. She learned how to "delude, deceive, and distract" extremely well as she trained with Conrad Flynn at the Farm of CIA. A ballerina turned spy, Zara stays true to the ballerina basic law "APLOMB" (perfect balance) as she carries out assignments. She also remembers her dance teacher saying, "Remember we only get one life, you can't shrink away from challenges just because you're scared". It takes all her skills as she works a new mission with a new partner, Lawson Vaughn, the hard-nosed leader of Pegasus Rescue Team. Commander Lawson Vaughn, accustomed to being in charge, is thrown off balance by the antics of his new partner from the beginning when she shows up at the airport in an attention-getting, sexy red silk dress for a covert mission. He is convinced he needs to neutralize her and accomplish the mission alone--easier said than done. Though older, more experienced, tempered like steel and deadly intense, Lawson misjudges Zara's abilities, He plans to use a firm hand to teach her limits, common sense and to guide her. However, he is beset by images that flash through his mind--images of Zara asleep in the claw-foot bathtub, the diamond navel ring in her bellybutton, the red silk dress flowing around her sensuous body, and pink boots with four-inch stilettos topped with a denim mini skirt. When the chips are down, he realizes Zara's ability, resourcefulness, training, and fast thinking are invaluable while saving lives and completing a mission. Misty Evans creates protagonists flawed from passed experiences, but they use their hard-won wisdom from those experiences to derail a sinister plot to use designer biological drugs for a type of ethnic cleansing. She creates antagonists that are credible opponents for the protagonists. They are powerful, well connected and have voracious appetites for POWER and CONTROL. Other secondary characters add levels of intrigue, mystery, and delightful humor to the story. I'd Rather Be in Paris touches on relevant issues in our real world and gives the reader lots of food for thought while it entertains in spellbinding fashion with fast action, scary situations, fabulous settings, and knock-you-socks-off love scenes--another great book for the romance reader's library. "I'd Rather Be In Paris is the second book in Misty Evans' Super Agent series and what an exhilarating read it was. It opens with a dramatic hook and as the plot thickens, tension builds towards a climatic finale. Totally immersed right from the start, it was a rollercoaster ride that left me feeling both excited and exhausted as Zara and Lawson are manipulated and led down a path that I certainly didn't see coming. One moment I thought I knew where they were heading and then `smack' a direction that had me gasping aloud. The characters work well together and I really enjoyed how Zara refused to give in to her fears. They, in fact, made her stronger and more determined, not only to show Lawson the very person that her boss Conrad Flynn trained her to be, but to carry out her mission. In some respects, Lawson is somewhat chauvinistic but his motivations are clearly displayed, allowing the reader to understand his actions." "While this is a series with some continuing characters, each book stands alone. I'll be checking to see what she has in store next. Misty Evans has made a fan of me. I love a good thriller featuring the `secret services' and Misty's books are some of the best I've read." - Abi
