Mr. Moore writes a solid account of events that led up to the capture of Saddam. Robin the author of the Green Berets, the French Connection to name a few and Well respected amoungst Green Berets. Robin Moore successfully completed the Special Forces Course before going to Vietnam.........the only civilian to ever do that. And with his condition (Parkinson) he still went to Iraq to get the real story from soldiers who were part of the capture. You gotta love and respect this man! Unlike some wanna be's that pretend to have attended the course, and fought in battle, i think you know who you are, shame on you. I must say for you ji to take a shot at Robin and the man who wrote the forward is brave, I've known both Robin and MV for a longtime, and was with MV in 90-91 when we he fired shots in anger, I ought to know, i was with him........

An outstanding book!

This, to me, is probably one of the best books that I have read. Me being not interested in many books was amazed by how it was written and about what all has been going on during the war. I would definatly recommend this book for people that are also, like me, interested in books like this one. It was outstanding the way it described what was going on. Told more facts then you would usually see in the news. And as I read it, it felt like I was there first hand.

Real War Stories

It is truly amazing for Mr. Moore to have traveled to Iraq to capture the real stories of those soliders that fought and continue to fight in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. A true non-fiction account of war.

Classic Non-Fiction on Operation Iraqi Freedom

Robin Moore does it again, and documents firsthand experiences from soldiers involved in Operation Iraqi Freedom. This book is a first-rate non-fiction read that is destined to become a textbook and reference of lessons learned for future conflicts. From the classic Unconventional Warfare Missions of Special Forces as they destroy one of the largest terrorist camps and terrorist organizations in Northern Iraq, to the 101st (AA) light infantry division as they ride into battle with an embedded reporter and their raid on the hideout of Uday and Qusay, and finally to the tactical operations of the 4th ID, a US heavy division operating around Tikrit and their collaboration with the Special Operators of Task Force 121 and later combined operations in the capturing of Saddam. This book is highly recommended by experienced war experts, veterans, veterans of Special Forces, and is receiving unprecedented positive reviews by the news media, such as Imus, FOX, CNN, MSNBC, NY cable stations, and National Radio Shows; a must read for those that want an insight of the war in Iraq.

A Surprisingly Balanced Account of the War in Iraq

I enjoyed this book very much after being disappointed in Mr. Moore's previous book, THE HUNT FOR BIN LADEN. HUNTING DOWN SADDAM has less of the flag-waving, super-macho language of BIN LADEN, and presents a more balanced, insider account of the work of the soldiers in Iraq - from day to day preparations and disappointments to the actual capture of Saddam. Unlike BIN LADEN, SADDAM doesn't try to justify the war in Iraq as much as it simply tells us what has really been going on over there. Some of the stories are more intimate than might be expected (again, particularly after the supercharged rhetoric of BIN LADEN), beginning on the first page, where Mark Vargas tells of waiting on a cargo plane in Iraq that is preparing to take off for Kuwait. A chaplain appears to tell the passengers that the plane will be carrying the bodies of three soldiers killed in action. Immediately, the mood inside the plane changes, as the passengers snap to attention to salute the bodies being brought on board. The Publishers Weekly review is correct -- the structure is a bit jumbled, but I don't think this denies the appeal of the book: Instead of a single, highly-structured narrative, the book gives us multiple accounts by Mr. Moore and several other journalists and soldiers. Likewise, the immediacy of the stories tends to compensate for the occasional awkwardness in the prose. Overall, I consider HUNTING DOWN SADDAM a highly recommended read that will appeal to a broad audience of readers, whether for or against the war in Iraq.
