The charge is often made that history is dry and...in many cases it may be. Perhaps that is so because we forget the human element involved in the thoughts and deeds of mankind. We overlook the fact that our forefathers and mothers had the same foibles and frailties as we possess. However, if we stop and peer more closely, we discover occasions, in times gone by, in which the human element was decidedly present.It is to the humorous side, the human element, that attention is turned in this booklet. Newspaper comments, advertisements, publications, etc., have been picked at random and have no special continuity. Some have an unforeseen humorous quirk not at all anticipated by the characters involved, some become ridiculous in our eyes because of changed conditions or styles, while others simply show the sense of humor our grandfathers had.A few facts and explanations have been thrown in, but mostly the stories stand here on their own strengths.
