Here's a cookbook for the person who wants to cook but can barely boil water, who enters the kitchen only with caution and despite dire predictions of disaster by family and friends. Kim Upton is coming to the rescue with amazingly simple skills for culinary success and mouthwatering recipes that anyone can master. Her incredible "Techniques" section teaches all the basics: it's like a series of private cooking lessons. Novices who work their way from A (aerating) to Z (zesting) will have an excellent base from which to create almost any dish. Learn blanching by making Peach Crostata; mincing by preparing Pasta with Garlic and Bacon; and roasting by whipping up Rosemary Chicken. To top it off, there's advice on kitchen essentials and entertaining tips.
I bought this for my neighbor and when I received it, I liked it so much, I bought one for myself. Now, my neighbor is going to buy another copy for her daughter. Pretty soon, we'll all be cooking like gourmets.
Definitely a keeper!

This is a great cookbook! Clear, helpful directions and delicious recipies. Very encouraging for beginners, challenging enough for more experienced cooks. Both a useful "how-to" reference and a source of enjoyable new recipes. Very glad I bought it.
Perfect for beginners . . . but wait there's more!

When I first picked up this book in a brick-and-mortar store, I thought it was perfect for my soon-to-be-married goddaughter, who is smart but a kitchen novice. Before I wrapped it, I looked closely at the recipes and realized that, while easy, they are sophisticated. Just right for my own kitchen. So I just ordered a copy for myself!
