Well done. Clear explanations with entertaining pictures

My 5.5 year old is into atoms and this was the closest thing I could find to an age-appropriate book on the subject. Atoms and associated topics such as radioactivity are explained in very simple language and the use of lively illustrations and humor to keep it sufficiently entertaining to hold kids' attention. Like a good textbook, it uses a historical approach, covering key experiments to show how our understanding of things developed. For example, the chapter on radioactivity included discussions of expermiments by Henri Becquerel, Marie Curie, and Ernest Rutherford. Also included are analogies to everyday things to make concepts easier to understand and, in addition, little experiments that you can do at home. I'd say that this book is better suited for kids 7 and up but it holds the attention of my interested preschooler.
