Rather superficial and unsophisticated

Characters were poorly developed and none too likable. Dialogue stilted and lacking in wit. Boring. This comes across the work of someone who has read numerous novels and decided ( mistakenly) ‘I can do that’. It’s as if every device for this genre has been jammed in, regardless of appropriateness, to the exclusion of good writing and a good plot.
