In this outstanding collection of seventy-seven poems, Sandburg eloquently celebrates the themes that engaged him as a poet for more than half a century of writing- life, love, and death. Strongly lyrical, these intensely honest poems testify to human courage, frailty, and tenderness and to the enduring wonders of nature.
LIKE A SHARP KNIFE, THE POEMS THAT CARL SANDBURG CREATES IN THIS COLLECTION CUT STRAIGHT TO THE HEART OF WHAT HE WRITES ABOUT. HIS TAKE ON THE MANY ASPECTS OF LIFE ARE SPOT ON AND HIS WRITING CREATES A DEEP EMOTIONAL UNDERSTANDING OF LIFE AND LOVE. THIS COLLECTION SHOULD NOT BE MISSED AND SHOULD BE SHARED WITH ONE YOU LOVE.

People criticize Sandburg as being too literal and sappy. Read Honey and Salt. You may find as I did that it doesn't really matter.
