Evidently this book isn't my favorite childhood reading. However, I still remember why fire engines are red (there are 12 inches in a ruler. Queen Elizabeth is a ruler. Queen Elizabeth is a ship on the ocen. Little fishes swim in the ocean. Little fishes have fins. The Finns fought the Russians. The Russians are called Reds. Fire engines are always rushin')
A timeless classic! One of a kind

Out of all of the books that we were supposed to read during my elementary school years (Stuart Little, Charlotte's Web ect.), this was the only one that I wanted to read. I must have checked this book out of the school library ten times and brought it back late every time! My favorite quote was "He ran from the Indies to the Andes, in his undies!". I often try to remember some of the limericks, knock-knock jokes, what freckles meant and what it means when you see three swallows flying..... A must-read for a child.
Gotta love it!

I remember this being my favorite book throughout elementary school. The love poems and limmericks were the best. "A boy with eyes of brown will kiss you once and turn you down, a boy with eyes of blue will kiss you once and ask for two". Ahh..memories!
Fond memories of childhood!

What a great book! I read this book as a child and want to pass it on to my children! In todays society of computers and interactive games these jokes, rhymes and limericks will be lost if not for this book and others like it (if there are any?)! Contains rope jumping rhymes like teddy bear teddy bear, Cinerella dressed in yellow etc! Americana at it's best!
fun childhood happiness

i don't remember alot about this book, just that i loved it when i was in the third grade and have been comtemplating going back to my elementary school for the sole purpose of stealing it. however, i am not that evil. all i remeber was it had folklore, funny limericks and other poems, all kind of really cool, pointless trivia (like what your lover means if they send you a letter with the stamp inverted on the bottom left hand corner, stuff like that). when i see it again, i will be the embodiement of innocent childhood bliss.
