When karaoke calls, get ready to steal the show. Karaoke Queen Raina Lee helps beginners and veterans conquer stage fright, pick songs to showcase vocal talent (or disguise a lack thereof), and master their moves (mic twirls, Mick Jagger kicks, etc.). She turns what can be a terrifying social rite of passage into a party no one wants to miss. With lists of the best songs for all occasions, advice from World Karaoke Champions, awesome hand-drawn typography and illustrations, plus party scene snapshots of people singing their hearts out, this pocket-size resource will turn up the volume on happy hour. I love to sing karaoke even though I'm not very good, and this book is a boon to me! Author Raina Lee does an excellent job of researching the origins of this performative pastime as well as uncovering some of the lesser known and arcane chapters in its ongoing history. An exhaustive yet fun exegesis on all things karaoke related, it includes great photos, hilarious themed songlists and even reviews and rundowns of the best and most unique karaoke venues in the country. This book is absolutely necessary for anyone interested in karaoke, from the casual I'll-only-sing-if-I'm-drunk dipper to the serious American Idol wannabe. Plus the author is cute. I love this book!!!

Raina is both sincere and hilarious which makes the book even better... ironic karaoke would be waaaaaaaay to easy... and Michael Perry's design/illo's rock the hutspa.

This is perfect for that person in the office who thinks he's on American Idol! introduce him to karaoke! the history section is really funny, but most useful is the section of recommended playlists, so you're never clueless what to sing. There's also some insider knowledge on where karaoke videos come from, and the origins of the karaoke home machine. Raina breaks down the archetypes of the karaoke singer. I must know someone from EVERY description. It's hilarious...truly great writing! Great gift for any music lover or karaoke freak!
The Official Karaoke Bible

It amazes me that a great karaoke book took this long to come out. As a seasoned karaokian(?), I can say that there really is no stone left unturned in this book. Song lists, drink recipes, karaoke history, a glossary - everyone has something to gain from the pages of this book. Other bonuses: nice paper stock, funny pictures, and super-happy artwork. But my favorite? Its size. Small enough to carry as a guide or give as a gift, yet bold enough to claim real estate on my coffee table. I almost feel bad for only paying eight bucks for it...
Hilarious!

What's not to love about this book? Whether you're a professional karaoke barfly or a shower singer, this book has you covered. Songlist by theme (not expected themes, hilarious themes) are included, as well as an honest primer of what NOT to sing. Kinda makes you want to hand it out to people at the karaoke bar! Brush up on your karaoke etiquette and even learn a bit of karaoke history. This is the perfect gift for the American Idols in your life.
