Control of the forts meant control of the land

As the European settlers moved into the North American continent and then began warring against each other, the military fort became the focal point of control. In order to maintain that power, the forts had to be solidly built and well organized. Many of the forts that figure so strongly in the history of the United States have been turned into tourist attractions and this book is a brief description of several of them.
