from the introduction: The Hessler Street Fair is a unique cultural celebration. Every spring, Hessler Rd and Hessler Lane turn into a gathering place for artists, musicians, poets. jugglers, vendors, non-profit workers and people who connect to the vast community begun 50 years ago by some original counter culture era thinkers and dreamers....not exactly sure when the Hessler Street Fair poetry contest began. Poet Daniel Thompson, who died in 2004 is the godfather of Hessler poetry. He worked with the Hessler committee to establish poetry during the fair and was passionate about connecting people with poetry in unlikely settings. He grew an audience for poetry not only at the fair but city-wide. ...For the last several years, Azriel Johnson from Writing Knights Press has been the publisher and caretaker. The Hessler Street Fair committee funds a contest with cash prizes and the entire proceeds from the book go towards printing it and funding the prizes....We have the folks who have labored so long on the Hessler Street Fair to thank for what has become a poetry tradition in Cleveland. The street fair, and hence the book, will be on hiatus for awhile. This 2019 Hessler Poetry Anthology, read it and hold on to it. It's a true treasure.Suzanne DeGaetano
