Book Overview

What should have been a fun-filled day takes a tragic turn for one mother when her best friend's child goes missing in this "seriously page-turning" (Lisa Jewell, New York Times bestselling author), suspenseful, and darkly twisted psychological thriller.

Lost momentum

The story started out okay: interesting and suspenseful. Then. In what came across as author desperation, the wheels came off. For example, the cops have the IQ of spaghetti ... and a woman with no money/cards is staying at a B&B and paying for a thousand-dollar car repair. The previously believable characters became cartoon cliches. And some things didn't make any sense (no tracker on car ... "hiding" a tell-all diary by the bad guy's bed ... a detective moving in and doing the housework). Overall, "...Mistake" had potential but suffered from DCW (Dazed & Confused Writer) Syndrome. Note: I was outraged that the whiny, shallow "victim" is simply, easily outwitted by a clever guy, while she scoffs at the terror and broken legs/ribs/arms/backs/faces inflicted by other bubbas. This is the kind of dumb, thoughtless female character that I detest.

This was very great book! That kept you wondering and on your toes

Interesting read

slow start but loved how the story picked up mid-way and then kept you enthralled the whole way through. The ending was mind blowing...

This book will keep you on your toes!

I was shocked towards the end! This novel is told by two sides, Charlotte and Harriet. I was tearing through the pages when it was time to read Harriet's version. I loved the ups and downs of this novel almost as much as I loved reading "Big Little Lies".
