Heber C. Kimball was Mormonism's most colorful leader and a major force in shaping, sustaining, and spreading the Mormon faith. Only Joseph Smith and Brigham Young wielded as much authority or had as much influence during the first four decades of the Mormon church. This is the first comprehensive and objective biography of Kimball since 1888. Stanley B. Kimball, Heber's great-great-grandson, shows us the man in all of his many dimensions---missionary, pioneer, preacher, politician, farmer, father, and husband. "Superb! This is a superior biography, based almost entirely on manuscript sources, few of which have been used or even examined by other scholars. It is new, it is fresh, it is fast-moving, it has the ring of truth, there is little editorializing, and it is written with economy, clarity, and balance." -- Leonard J. Arrington, author of Brigham Young: American Moses
Life of Heber C. Kimball, good book, great testimony builder
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 20 years ago
I am not a life long member of the church so I did not have a great background in the early history of the church. A friend recommended that I read the Joseph Smith bio by his Mother, Lucy Mack Smith, the Arrington Bio of Brigham Young, this book on Heber C. Kimball, the Wilford Woodruff bio and the book, "Men With A Mission" which is about the Quorum of the 12's mission to the British Isles. These books will give you a solid background on the early history of the church and the great missionary work done by the 12 from 1838-1841. It will also build your testimony by giving you some solid examples of great spiritual events. I hope this helps and if you have any questions you can contact me @ wmj0976@yahoo.com
