Interesting book but was largely a transcript

As a native Roanoker, I was very intrigued by this book. Anyone local to this area of SW Virginia or interested in coming to this area of VA would find this book interesting. The chapters were short which was nice. The reader could dip in and out, even if one only had a few minutes to read However, I was very frustrated by the fact that a large portion of the book was simply "copy/paste" of transcripts from other sources or transcripts from interviews with little storytelling from the actual "author" of the book. As this author seemed to be very experienced according to his biography, I would LOVE to have heard the stories told in his own voice. I absolutely enjoyed the history and it was ultimately a worthwhile read. I just think it could have been so much better hearing the tales from the author himself. Embellishments with the transcripts would have simply added to the authenticity.
