Easy to understand and true to form

A good read--definately worth the time. For starters, this book is a good pick for both network security experts and the casual reader. The author does an excellent job of analyzing criminal techniques and common flaws in today's computer systems. Whether you're trying to secure a network or gain a better understanding of "hackers" in the news, this book does a good job. Because the subject matter is abstract, it holds up very well several years after the original printing. The author added a foreward to the book a few months after the 9/11 incident that explains how the principles hold true. The book does not cover specific vulnerabilities--those change over time. Rather, it recognizes patterns and similarities in bad security and talks about the prevention, detection, and reaction of secuirty violations.
Good Historical Writing

Excellent book. Well organized and, as one reviewer put it below, comprehensive. That is, it doesn't just concentrate on the West -- which, for the period concerned, largely means the western part of the European peninsula. Do I need to say more?
A Good Overview

This book is a good overview of World History. I had to purchase it for a college class ten years ago--I loved it and have kept it on hand ever since. It is factual and to-the-point, but is written well. I would recommend this book to anyone who would like to see history in context...
