BLACK AND WHITE EDITION: After finding a collection of handwritten and forgotten recipes on note cards, scraps of paper and even part of an old composition notebook, we decided to save everything we could in the original handwriting along with wonderful memories so that our children and grandchildren could someday leaf through this book-and remember. We don't know whether any of these recipes actually came over with our ancestors from England in 1619 but many of them sound like they could have, like "CHOW CHOW," "ENGLISH PEAS AND DUMPLINGS," "OKRA AND TOMATO SOUP," "CORN DODGERS," "TIPSY CAKE," "CUSTARD PIE" and GRANDMA'S "DARK FRUITCAKE" made only at Christmas and basted with blackberry wine for five weeks. After gathering the recipes and memories from relatives far and near, we thought others might enjoy them too, so we invite you to wander through these pages with our ancestors. Perhaps our recipe book will bring back memories for you as well and possibly inspire you to do the same for your family. We hope it will. From our hearts and kitchens to yours.Pat McNeely and Paige Gantt
