Book Overview

When Kerri Bloodstone's estranged father, David, dies unexpectedly in Anoka, Minnesota, she has to face the truth of her powers of electrical manipulation and return to her hometown for the funeral. There, she meets her mysterious Uncle Bryan for the first time, who shows up out of the blue after her mother's tragic suicide years earlier. Kerri starts questioning the circumstances around both deaths.

Her unease grows when David's will requires Kerri to run his historic winery for one year or lose her rightful inheritance. The only exception is her mother's ornate bloodstone pendant necklace, which is said to possess unique protective powers. As Kerri reconnects with her local roots and rekindles a romance with her childhood friend Allen, she soon becomes the target of a sinister threat. The secret council, sworn to protect the Bloodstones for centuries, knows that David was murdered but doesn't grasp the full mystery behind their duty and the legends of ancient tunnels below the town.

Kerri is soon joined by her college best friend and roommate, Skyler, a powerful empath. David's grieving fianc , Molly, reveals she was aware he feared being killed and vows to keep Kerri safe. As the claustrophobic community becomes increasingly dangerous for her, Kerri must uncover her true legacy before she loses everything, including her life.

i can't write girls like this

this book would make me sick if it wasn't so dang good. i don't understand how he is able to write female characters so well. oh well, read it.

Amazing artwork!

This is one of my all-time favorite comics. The story is so-so, but it doesn't matter. The art is amazing and the fact that the protagonists are a bunch of ... hip hop girls dealing ... in the city make up for it. I just wish he'd do a sequel. Highly recommended!

Good style, Not so good writing

I love this book. I bought it after seeing Jim Mahfood's work in the "Clerks" comic, and this did not disappoint. If you like comics, or aspire to write them, this is a good buy. The story lags in some parts, mainly in some of the dialogue (it seems like he's occasionally trying too hard to make drug references or use slang), but that isn't why I bought the book, nor is it the reason why I love the book. The style is awesome! I found myself getting very into the action of the book, just because of how it was all presented. The story is pretty cheesy, but BUY THIS BOOK. I like the pretty pictures.

Bad Girls Are SOOOO Good!

Three childhood friends grow up together into Intelligent, sexually-liberated street 'thugs that run a small-time drug-dealing racket and are targeted by an evil corporate mob-style monopoly that believes they are taking away "business." Punky fashion, witty dialogue, a campy comedic plot, dynamic characters and awesome artwork. What more could you ask for in a comic?
