In recent years, the earth has been deluged with changes. Political, economic, and social choices all have effects on the environment. But what is being done to prevent permanent damage? Green Globe Yearbook examines the international politics of environmental management. It shows the accomplishments of the international community in solving specific environmental and developmental issues, the main obstacles to effective international solutions, and suggestions for future attempts to overcome these problems. The Yearbook is divided into two sections: analysis and reference. The former consists of up to ten articles by prominent experts who provide a current description and evaluation of the specific problem under discussion--focusing on results, impediments, and challenges to international negotiations, conflicts, and agreements. Subjects covered in this volume are ozone depletion, climatic change, endangered species, export of hazardous waste, biodiversity, population control, environmental law, and sustainable energy development. The latter, some two-thirds of the work, covers in a systematic and concise fashion key data on international agreements on environment and development, intergovernmental organizations with activities in this area, and a selective group of non-governmental organizations. Unlike other references which focus solely on international agreements or resources, Green Globe Yearbook emphasizes international cooperation and negotiation.
