A profound journey into and beyond oneself

This is an amazing life story revealing a woman's unfolding self knowledge - from a dark relationship with her father to the safe haven of a convent, from wife and mother to prostitute, to an eventual awakening that she was not bad at all - there was nothing to fix. This is not simply about a former nun gone bad and who then comes good, but a profound journey into and beyond oneself. This book shows the convoluted path one can go down to discover one's true self. Carla writes in a most self-effacing manner, nothing held back. One can squirm about the detail, but hey, this is real life, just like the daily life we lead and sometimes shove under. Its remarkable profoundness and raw honesty often hits you in the face. Despite all the pain and humiliation she experienced, Carla writes openly, without judgment and vilification. It is her courageous openness that sets this book apart. A truly remarkable book that I found hard to put down. One can read this book at different levels - from a simple biography, to a journey of finding the core of oneself and that is how I read it and got many insights into my own journey in life. Regardless, any reader will get profound insights into what it is like to be a nun and a call girl and the process of learning to let go. I am looking forward to Carla's follow-up book.
