Excellent introduction to Arcview

This book is well written and organized and has served as a very useful reference for my work using it. The information on Arcview extensions is very useful in deciding which ones might be worth purchasing.

Easy As Can Be

Having a class called "Natural Hazard Mitigation", we are currently learning the basics of Arcview GIS. This book has made it very easy as it explains step by step on how to use each application within the program. The book also includes a CD-Rom to download to Windows for use of learning most of the lessons. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn the basics of Arcview GIS.

The definitive guide

I used it when I was a student at Ohio State. There is really no better book for learning the powerful program ArcView GIS. This book includes sample data and has the working software right on the CD so you don't need to even own ArcView to test it out. Has anyone read the new book from ESRI, Extending ArcView GIS?

A great help if you're studying GIS

This book really helped me !! I'm currently doing a one-yar college program in GIS. For my project work I did some tranportation routing using ArcView Network Analyst, and even though this book does not cover that particular extension that much, it still provided a great help in understanding how to get the most out of ArcView, as a preparation for the analyses I ran. Step-by-step instructions followed by screen shots in color made the learning process really fun.

The best intro to ArcView available

This book was designed to teach the use of ArcView software, but it also gives a good start on understanding the uses of geographic information software. It has been adopted by many colleges and universities as their introductory GIS textbook, but for this purpose it is best paired with a general introductory textbook on GIS, such as the Clarke, Chrisman, or DeMers book. For someone looking to buy a desktop GIS program, this is the best (and most economical) way to find out if the technology will meet your needs
