How you and I -- not just Mike -- can make a difference
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 17 years ago
I bought this book thinking it would be Mike Huckabee's plan for improving the United States from his position in political leadership. While he does touch on things he has done as governor of Arkansas, this book is moreso about what you, me, and everyone can do to make a difference. As Huckabee explains, maybe you can't personally cause peace in the Middle East, or maybe you personally can't eliminate the U.S. national debt, but there are all sorts of things that you can do to make your life better, and the lives of those around you. A great read, and worth reading frequently.
Need this guy for President...

This book is a fascinating look at the thought process of the most interesting, normal guy running for president. He comes from common middle-class roots, can find common ground with 80% of America, and has inspiring yet common-sense solutions to complex problems. He's not easy to label or pigeon-hole, but this book helps the reader understand the way he thinks, and why. Even those areas that the reader doesn't agree with Huck, you are left respecting WHY he thinks that way, creating a civil disagreement that is rare & sorely missed in today's political arena where everything is partisan. He doesn't gloss over the issues, nor does he provide band-aid fixes to every little ailment our nation has, but sees the role of a leader to LEAD and inform, not to cram law down the throats of the "little people" whether they like it or not. His style is engaging, persuasive, and winsome, and makes you like him even if you don't like his politics. A rare statesman, indeed.
America, listen to this man!

Having already read Huckabee's book, "Character Makes a Difference," I knew that the governor was a good writer. However I wasn't prepared for the depth of his political insights and breadth of governmental acumen. He can both talk the talk and walk the walk. He has measurably helped his own state, and it looks to me like he could help the whole country. What a concept! A politician with integrity and humility. I hope we get to vote for him in the fall. You don't have to agree with everything he says, but it would make real good sense to listen to everything he says. He has been there and done that and in a difficult and unfriendly setting. I'm on the bandwagon!
Emapthy meets eloquence, to renew the American Promise.

Huckabee's book exudes the leadership, warmth and charm that made him the most popular Republican in a heavily Democratic state. His book is less about partisan matters than it is about building our communities and repairing our society. As Jon Stewart noted on the Daily Show, it doesn't come across as something a strong conservative would write, although Huckabee himself is a bonafide conservative Republican. This book speaks to renewing America--what we can do to restore our former glory, and what we need to stop doing to repair our damaged discourse and heal partisan wounds.
