Book Overview

In this exclusive insider's biography of former Vice President Al Gore, Tennessee author Troy Gipson provides a fascinating behind-the-scenes account that sheds light on Gore's political service and personal life. In stunning detail, Gipson chronicles the life and career of Al Gore, from his early years growing up in a powerful political family while being groomed as a future president. Gipson's biography captures Gore's rapid political rise through the U.S. Congress, ascension to the vice presidency, and his nomination and campaign for president in the 2000 presidential election, which ended after the controversial U.S. Supreme Court decision overruling the Florida state Supreme Court in allowing vote recounts.

As Vice President, Gore served two terms with President Bill Clinton, during which time he played a significant role in domestic and foreign policy initiatives. His influence upon the office was so substantial that most historians regard him as one of the nation's top vice presidents in American history.

The author first met Gore during his campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives in 1976, a chance encounter that marked the beginning of his longtime involvement in Gore's political journey. Having known and worked with Al Gore since his first election in 1976, Gipson offers readers a unique perspective on Gore's political service, as well as insights into the personal attributes of the man himself: his character, motivations, loyalty, and unwavering desire to make a positive impact upon the nation and the world. Breathtaking in scope and moving in its portrayal, From Carthage to Oslo is the definitive insider's biography of former Vice President Al Gore.
