Durham and Purrington approach the history of the universe by exploring the frontiers of physics, while maintaining a long-standing interest in astronomy and cosmology. They stress that man can not fully understand himself until he understands the universe, of which he is a part.
The section on the Babylonian creation story , Enuma Elish, was new to me. Details of the lives and instruments used by early astronomers is very good. The only fault is that it is old and doesn't cover the newer paradigm of Cartan groups and string theory. Very well written and researched this book has information for those who study the history of science.
