Good Source

Nice organization. It makes understanding the geography of the town much easier. Better than others that I use.

London 2008

I bought both Paris and London 2008 books for my upcoming trip to Europe, and I enjoy both. The guides are easy to read, tell you how to make the most of your time at various locations, tell you how to get to where you want to go and provide a variety of eating and shopping locations for all budgets.

The Best London Guide...

I had never been to London before and this book proved to be an invaluable guide. I was only planning to be in the city for five days and, coincidentally, the book begins with an itinerary on how to see the city in precisely that amount of time. Although I didn't adhere rigidly to the books schedule, I still got the gist of it. For anyone who hasn't been there, the geography of London is extremely confusing and I would have been lost in a moment were it not for the maps provided. They are scattered throughout the book so be sure to keep the pages folded. This book covers everything you would need to know about the travel: from currency to the tube (subway) to electricity. It is neatly broken down into sections so you can refer to it for sightseeing, dining, or clubbing. I stuck mostly to the pubs myself and, while not rated, the book lists the best, most historic pubs to visit. Even though it is a book on London, the book also covers the other cities that are a good day trip away. (I was able to find the real Hogwarts in Oxford with a little help). It is fine reading in its own right, as it contains lovely essays on culture and history. The authors provide a nice balance between the touristy places and the spots off the beaten path.

A Remarkable Travel Companion

I've taken Fodor's guides with me on many trips and have found them to always be a reliable and ready companion. Their suggested sightseeing tours and ample lists of museums, lodging, and restaruants have helped me find efficient outings into new cities and countries. It's often intimidating to travel to a foreign destination, but the competency of Fodor's guides with their well constructed presentation have often made me the most confident of travelers.

Excellent for the first time traveller!

The book is brilliant and as someone who lives in London I want to say that it is good to have whether you are a traveller or whether you need ideas on where to take visitors that are staying with you! Included in the book I bought was a map of London and my only criticism is that the tube map is completely wrong and it would confuse anyone unfamiliar with the underground in London. Ignore the map and follow the ones on the station platforms and you will be fine! Overall an excellent guide but where did you find the colours for the tube map as not one single line is in the correct colour!?
