Photojournalist Noah Bennett has been running from himself forever. Covering war zones around the world has kept him away from his mistakes and, more important, from Sophie Rousseau, his high school sweetheart. But he's never forgotten her. He's returned to idyllic Mirabelle Island to heal, to finish his latest book...and to face Sophie again. Months after Noah escaped the island for college, Sophie married his older brother. Now a widow with teenage twins, Sophie will do whatever it takes to speed Noah's recovery and get him off her island. Before the only man she ever loved breaks her heart again.
I loved this book. Your only complaint after reading it will be "why didn't I buy book 2 !!??". Seriously, this is a fabulous story about two people finding their way back together and the beginning of a great series.

Helen Brenna definitely succeeded in creating a world readers will want to return to over and over. I loved Noah and Sophie--they are sympathetic and believable and their story is poignant but still perfect happily-ever-after material. I'm also totally impressed with her handling of this physically wounded hero. Although he wears a prosthetic leg, there is no maudlin or over-blown treatment of him as "handicapped." His character growth and acceptance of his physical condition is as natural as Sophie's acceptance of the past and of her own feelings. I definitely recommend this book--a total gem!

Adam Gadach, the real hero of the book! To go on with life, and be determined to help others despite being injured by a drunk driver, and losing his leg . . . WHAT A REAL LIFE HERO! I would like to read more about Adam's life, and his courage.

Helen Brenna has written a wonderful story, created an irresistable island, and fascinating characters. Her books are always in my shopping cart, but this one is my favorite so far.

A friend recommended this book to me and I'm glad she did. The main characters are complex and interesting individuals - a must for any good book. Noah, the hero, is a photojournalist returning home to recover from physical and emotional wounds inflicted by the war zones he has covered. The one person who can help heal him is Sophie, the same woman who rejected him fifteen years before. As the story unfolds, it becomes less clear who betrayed whom, with a whole cast of supporting characters each with their own role to play in the star-crossed love story. An engaging, satisfying summer read, I would definitely recommend this book.
