Jaded private investigator, Jack Prescott, had committed himself to helping a distraught client, who had reached out to him for help to research a peculiar cold case. Now her death has dragged him into the path of someone's unending rage.
After witnessing the grim event, he investigates her unexplainable death. Unable to explain or even understand the terrible events he has seen or the danger that he is in, Jack must uncover the truth behind the burnt house on the outskirts of Oakland. Haunted by his memories and now hunted but whatever killed his client, Jack is forced into a situation that requires him to confront his own past and face his own addictions. But, the pursuit of the truth will guide him in uncovering secrets that the town has hidden for over a decade, allowing them to simmer.
His investigation leads him to a spate of unsolved deaths underneath a sleepy town, all too content to bury and forget the past. As he grows closer to the truth, his life is seemingly the price he will have to pay to learn the origin of what now torments the town.
Armed with only his skills as an investigator and aided by a keen-eyed, but reluctant and a notoriously risk-averse loner in the role of his partner, they both must get to the core of the town's problems before they themselves are consumed.
