Like the previous three collections ("What ho, magic!", "Relative magic" and "Stealing magic"), "Finding magic" shows that Tanya Huff is at home in a lot of settings and genres. There are sci-fi stories, fantasy stories and re-written fairy tales, and all of them have the trademark Huff humour, suspense and an enjoyable cast of characters. Some of the stories are prequels or sequels to her novels, but you don't have to know the novels to understand the story. For fans, these stories are a nice bonus. Each story has a little foreword by the author. Stories featured in "Finding magic" are: I knew a guy once Choice of ending He said, Sidhe said After school specials Finding Marcus Jack Slow poison Tuesday evenings, six thirty to seven Blood in the water Not that kind of war Under summons A woman's work The things everyone knows We two may meet (Previously published in "Stealing magic", 2nd edition) The demon's den Brock All the ages of man Further there are a foreword, an essay about Huff's stories in this collection and a complete (!) bibliography of Huff's work. If you are a Tanya Huff fan, this book is a must-buy. If you'd like an introduction to her work, it's a good start. And if you just like to read entertaining short stories with good dialogue, interesting characters and nice plots you'll probably like this book. Recommended!
