Howard Douglas, raised in the environment of foster homes sets out on his own at the age of 17 looking for a new way of life. Kingsley Spencer, a notorious casino tycoon, finds Howard sleeping on a bench and offers him a job - a job too good to turn down; or so it seems. Howard soon becomes Kingsley's right-hand man and for many years accepts the immoral ways of life.
