Fairfield, Ohio, has a rich history dating back nearly 200 years, from the Symmes Purchase to a thriving modern city.
The City of Fairfield can trace its roots to the early 1950s, prior to becoming a city, when the City of Hamilton was initiating efforts to incorporate a large chunk of what was then Fairfield Township. But the history of this southwest Ohio city actually dates back almost 200 years. The City of Fairfield was originally part of the legendary Symmes Purchase, a small but major real estate transaction that resulted in the establishment of a major US city and led to a population outbreak that helped naugurate statehood for Ohio. In 2015 the City of Fairfield has a diverse population of over 42,000 and encompasses over twenty-one square miles. The city is home to the world-renowned Jungle Jim's International Market, the Cincinnati Financial Corporation, the Ohio Casualty/Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, Medco Health Systems, Koch Foods, Pacific Industries, M. Bohlke Veneer Company, and the Western States Machine Company, among others.
