Good 6000 foot view, but missing details

There is much useful info in this text that will help any Manufacturing Engineer avoid pitfalls. However, despite detailed models and optimization problems the author chooses not to broach the most critical question: How much will this project cost? It is impossible to make a business case for any project without considering life cycle cost. While studying Chemical Engineering, we needed to present detailed economic analysis while defending the courses of action taken for our senior design project. Our text provided charts to estimate capital cost, operating cost and deflation schedule for each piece of major equipment. Correcting the deficiency in Heragu's text would be simple. While process specific equipment / machinery may be outside the scope of this book, common items could be included with a minimal degree of effort. Instead of merely showing pictures of different cranes, the author should quantify investment and operating costs of key P & E items, generate swag relations and include these in the text (along with a disclaimer). Without this, the text cannot cross over from theoretical to practical.

This book is the Bible for facility design, layout, relayout, analysis, and modeling. An essential book for anyone interested in these topics.

A thorough overview on modeling and facilties design

This is a great textbook in modeling. Even though, some chapters need a high level of maths to be understood and advanced models are really "hard stuff".

One of the great book for facilities design

We used this book as a text for our class. The textbook is well organized and completed in itself. The reason of 4 stars instead of 5 is too much "ROW LAYOUT", which I think it's the only special case and rarely found in real-world application. Otherwise, this is one of the great books for student and professional.
