Fast on the feathers of Extraordinary Chickens, Stephen Green-Armytage is back with even more beautiful photographs, this time extolling the glories of the pheasant family. Among pheasants, the peacock with his magnificent fan of iridescent tail feathers is widely celebrated. Less well known but equally fine-feathered are the Long-tailed Mikado, the Satyr Tragopan, the Bornean Crested Fireback, and the Chinese Monal, only a few of the peacock's many exotic cousins. In gorgeous full-color photographs, Green-Armytage captures the stunningly ornate plumage and surprising mix of the bizarre and the beautiful among more than 70 different varieties of pheasants. A brief but informative text offers an introduction to the birds and their habitats, and concise descriptions of the species follow the illustrations. Serious birders will certainly treasure this unique volume, but even the casual bird fancier will be captivated by the complex shapes, patterns, and colors -- from brown, red, yellow, and blue to bronze, purple, emerald, and pure white -- of the beautiful creatures gathered here. more of a information book then the others are

This book is very good, but it is more of a informational book on pheasants then the others are about chickens/pigeons.Since alot of the different types of pheasants are wild or inside an enclosure type atmosphere, the photos are not all close up or take up the whole page. The one thing I would have liked is full body photos of the different range of colors of peacocks. There are some, but most are of close ups of the feathers themselves.Since they are not photos of the whole peacock it's difficult to visualize what the whole bird would like like completely covered with that feather pattern. All in all,I enjoyed the book alot and would still recommend it highly to anyone who enjoyed the other books about the different types of birds, but the "Extra Extraordinary Chickens" is my personal favorite.

The superbly presented, closely detailed, impressive, full-color images of these majestic birds are the highlight of the book. All enhanced with an informative introduction, short, "reader friendly", descriptive comments concerning each pheasant species helping to round out this vibrant avian celebration.
