This book is intended for undergraduate or senior graduate courses in experimental stress analysis. The text introduces the entire range of experimental mechanics, and covers all the theory required... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This book has everything you need from my point of view. I'm a student from UNAM, in Mexico, and i studied from Durelli's "Introduction to the theoretical and experimental analysis...." the fundamentals of elasticity. Then, i took three courses of experimental mechanics with different professors, and all of them took Dally's "Experimental Stress Analysis" as a textbook (not Doyle's "Modern Exp. Stress Analysis", neither Hetenyi's nor Budyna's, etc). This is a CLASSIC book. Has the theoretical foundations of elasticity, fracture mechanics, strain gages instrumentation, optics and all the methods perfectly explained.
A multipurpose book

Not only does this book give you comprehensive information on experimental techniques, it also gives you the fundamentals of elasticity that are necessary. This is important because even before you measure stresses or strains, you need to know what they are likely to be. (normal,shear,+/- etc) Apart from this, it is the best reference for photoelastic and optical methods of stress analysis. Excellent and a must have for any one interested in mechanics. Falls in the category of Timoshenko and Cook's books for quality and usefulness.
