The story opens with Emily Collins, sitting her obstetrician's office with other mothers-to-be, trying, and failing dismally, to establish some kind of sympathetic common ground with them, a theme throughout the book.She is thirty-four weeks pregnant, her ankles are swollen, her hair is falling out, she's worried about the baby and she's been passed over for a promotion at work. She is also dealing with the dramatic life of her best friend and her bossy mother and sister. And if all that isn't enough, it looks as if her piano-playinng husband is having an affair. Depressed, demoted and drugged, she finally comes to the conclusion that inside every good girl, there's a bad girl waiting to get out Sounds serious and depressing, but Emily is stubborn and determined, and sets about having her baby, bringing her husband back in line, calming her relatives, and launching a huge court case against the Health Board, which is trying to close down the hospital where she's about to give birth.This is a story full of drama and humor that you'll find hard putting down. I laughed plenty and I believe you will too.
